About me
Ilya Lyashevsky has been researching and teaching the topic of social and emotional learning (SEL) for over a decade. Together with his research partner, Dr. Mel Cesarano, he co-created one of the country’s first graduate courses on the cognitive foundations of SEL at Columbia Teachers College, which he has been co-teaching for the past 10 years. He also cofounded ThinkHumanTV, an educational technology platform that uses popular media and emotion science to help develop skills like empathy and emotion regulation. ThinkHumanTV was named a 'Change 100' social impact startup of 2026 and was a winner of the 2025 Global Edtech Startup Awards. Ilya has received multiple grants from organizations like the National Science Foundation and the Learning Agency. His research has been published in journals like the American Education Research Journal and presented at conferences like the SEL Exchange, APS, and elsewhere. He received a PhD in cognitive science from Columbia University and a BS and MS in computer science from Stanford University.
